Ah Friday

I'll be honest, I don't feel like posting. I was on a 'hot' streak for days but for some reason today I have little inspiration to post. I did find one very lovely project tutorial I'd like to try by the small object . She gave me permission to post her project. Isn't it adorable?
And I have been holding on posting my Baby Nines quilt, but here it is. I saw this on the cover of McCalls Quilting. I actually entered it in a quilt show in Iowa where I grew up. I received honorable mention. I entered another quilt as well in that show....and it ended up in the local paper. I clipped that article and hope to scan it in and post here for my quilt a day journal.

Q.A.D. #15 Dolly Hearts

Here's a very simple doll quilt. My daughter decided the placement of the hearts. She wanted the purple heart on the bottom right to be flipped. So that is what I made. It's one of her little doll quilts so I wanted it pleasing to her.

Q.A.D. #12 Purple Hearts

This lovely thing was made while I was in dental school, so 11 years ago. I believe it is from a book Little Quilts All through the House. I just bought my Viking Lily 540 and wanted to try the buttonhole stitch. I did it but let me tell you, it isn't pretty...well not up close that is. AND the binding...oh here she goes again on the binding. I sewed it down and flipped it to the FRONT! so you can see ALL my stitches. Plus Shhh..don't tell anyone, but all the fabrics were from walmart...eek! Hey I was a poor student....feel sorry for me LOL.

Nothing new...but Q.A.D. #11

This is made from Real feedsacks....not reproductions. It is a pattern by Fons and Porter but I can't remember the issue.
I have been collecting 30's repros for about 10 years now. Throughout my quest for these lovely little fabrics I happened upon many a quilt shop as you can imagine. Living in Minnesota was awesome for me as there were 3 quilt shops in Rochester, 1 in Owatonna, and 1 near where I worked in Albert Lea....oh and did I mention the bazillion shops by Minneapolis/St.Paul??? my lord it was heaven.
Oh right back to this quilt....while I was shopping a 30% off sale and scarfing up a yard of ALL the 30's this particular shop had...a wonderful lady noticed the fabrics I was buying. She said she had been given feedsacks and scraps that she had no use for and wondered if I was interested....Ah YES! So naive as I was I gave her my name and address. After I drove home, I thought "you fool, why did you give that lady all your information" are you crazy! I did feel a bit crazy for doing that, but about 4 days later a package arrived with my mail. Inside were all these 1930-40's feedsack prints. I kept them for about 3 years before I started this quilt. This is a reminder of that generous lady...a reminder of how precious just a small scrap were to a quilter even then.

Quilt A Day #10

Another little quilt I made about 10 years ago. I was learning machine quilting and all that....so again wonky quilt=wonky binding. I still display it. A reminder of how far I have come as a quilter/crafter.

I Won! I Won from Up Quilter woohoo...

Here's my awesome loot from Toni. Her grandson Cameron pulled my name.... Now I have to decide which purse to make first! Thanks Toni!

Happy Thanksgiving

This year we were able to stay home home for Thanksgiving. It is tough traveling with children and lately we've been run ragged. So this is our catch up weekend. I have sooo much to do LOL. I forgot to take picture of the meal my HUSBAND made...it was great though. I got clean up duty but I was more than happy to do that since he cooked mostly. The baby is currently sleeping and so here I am online...I think I am suppose to be organizing something but oh well.
Here's what I whipped up in 5 minutes here and there this week. It's the start of an apron from a pattern by Indygo Junction. Perhaps I will finish it this YEAR haha.
Here is the 'fruit' of some of my organizing so far. I organize and alternate with sewing so it's taking awhile....sewing is waaay more fun. I just ADORE my loft space. It is turning out so much better than I ever imagined.
And Day #9 Q.A.D. Little Civil War quilt from Fat Quarter Quilts by Darlene Zimmerman. I love that book. I could make nearly every quilt in it!

Chocolate Swap

Yeah Cindy sent me a wonderful package today via UPS. I didn't know it had arrived until my husband went to take out the trash. He said "you've got a package" and I was thinking "oh lord what did I buy...darn I hope it's not fabric" LOL. Anyhow, it was from Cindy so I was in the clear....THIS time!

Isn't that bowl lovely? I think it is perfect for Thanksgiving. And the chocolate...wow so yummy. Sharon hosted a very successful swap. Thank you Sharon!

Q.A.D. #8 Cut Flower Garden

This particular quilt took me awhile...like 4 years! I machine appliqued it and collected various threads to match the fabrics. The picture really doesn't do it justice.

Q.A.D.#7 Thimbleberries Baby Quilt

This is a Thimbleberries pattern I made about 7 years ago for my unborn baby...who is now 6!! I pieced and quilted it myself. It has been very well loved. I wish I had a close up because I quilted shapes in all the squares. Here is that 'baby' in the Holiday parade as a 'sweet sixteen'....it was COLD! I will tell you 2 hours in 35 degrees F...will freeze yah!

Speaking of 'Sweet Sixteens'...have you seen the Maywood Fabrics that were released at Market? Bunny Luv....AND just so happens that Maywood has these awesome free patterns to use with the 9 X 11 inch pieces of fabric. So now I have to cut my other fat quarters in 4 and THEN make the pattern??? LOL

Q.A.D. #6

1930's bowtie...made with scraps...

I made bed quilts too...but I was a bit stuck on little quilts then. I quickly went through my pictures again and realized that many of my quilts were not photograghed. Some pics were lost when one of our computer hard drives crashed. I back up ALL pics now. I thought they were backed up but the disk was never found, sadly. So I plan on taking some new photos today.
My Daughter is in a parade today as well and I have some sewing to do. I had blogged awhile back a few egg flower applique blocks. I finally finished button hole stitching all the blocks. Can't wait to show that.

Q.A.D.#5 1930's Heart quilt

Can you tell I was/am stuck on 30's fabrics! I did quilt this one and it hangs in my daughters bedroom in our vacation home.

Q.A.D #4 Mini Kimonos

Another fun one made in 2002....I loved the oriental fabrics by Kaufmann but I had limited funds. I purchased enough fat quarters to make this quilt. I haven't purchased any more oriental style fabrics since. I STILL have the scraps though and so I know I could make another quilt easily. I used foundation paper piecing...quite tricky at first. Can you see the wonky binding? I've gotten better at binding over the years...especially after finding Fons and Porter and Thimbleberries 'techniques'.

Q.A.D. #3 Scrappy 1930's Stars

This was a quick scrappy little quilt I made in 2002..again in Minnesota. I made a lot of quilts when I lived there. I sold this one on ebay. I did A LOT of ebay selling in those days when it was affordable to list. Then they jumped the prices so much I couldn't make much of a profit. I still have loads of appliques and 1930's charms. I think I might start an account on etsy!

Q.A.D #2 1930's Jewel Box

I made this quilt when I lived in Minnesota in 2002. Quilt-in-a-day Jewel Box by Eleanor Burns. I LOVE 1930's prints so this was a joy to piece. I have lots to say but little time...I mean Dancing with the Stars is on in 15 minutes!! haha

Yummy Chocolate Aqua fabs...by Micheal Miller Lulu.....

Ok I swear after these I am done posting Vegas stuff...then it's just a Quilt A Day.....

1. Baskets for Betsy Q.A.D.

I saw that Sharon of Red Geranium Cottage posted a picture of this quilt pattern. I think she just bought it in Indiana. Turns out I actually made that quilt...well a version of it!

After searching all my pictures trying to find this quilt, I soon realized that I have made many many quilts. So I am going to try to post a Quilt-A-Day to have an archive of sorts with all my quilts.
Baskets for Betsy is #1. I made this for our local quilt guild challenge about 2 years ago. I won first place. I used the challenge fabric in the border. It's a Judy Rothermel Civil War reproduction.

Christmas Goose and this weekend

I had a great shopping time at the Christmas Goose. On the 30th of the month they have 30% off all fabric. AND October was my birthday month soooo I got 20% off everything else. It was awesome. Here are a few pics of my goodies as they wouldn't allow pictures...OK I lied...I did take one pic...but they don't know.
O-K I don't have those pictures darn it....so here are some of the fabrics I bought!

And a pack of Leanne's fantastic patterns for her BOM quilt. I am still organizing my sewing area. These are my some of my yarn piles that I still need to sort.I found several more yards of flannels I didn't remember I had...isn't that horrible? I still love it though and sooo glad I found it.
Baby girl E has been suffering for 2 months with ear infections. Her last bought was this weekend and we are on antibiotic #5. The sweet little girl is miserable and making mommy miserable too. I decided that in between taking care of her, I would sew this weekend. I am not cleaning....just sewing and organizing. I 'hoped' to finish the project I started last night. It is mega EASY. I quilted it myself. Here she is sitting on it. I am half way through the binding. The pattern is Cottonway called 'Bundle up Baby Girl'. I used Moda Allspice jellyroll and the jumbo rick rack I bought at the Christmas Goose. Did I say this was easy? It totally is, I recommend buying the pattern!

Back Home...and the winners!!

I am home and mostly why I haven't posted. Work just backs up while I am gone. Plus all the regular house duties. Vegas was great. I wanted to post about the Christmas Goose the last shop I visited in Vegas but my pics are on my hubby's computer. I don't have access to them tonight sadly. I can tell you that the Christmas Goose was Fabulous. They have 30% on the 30th of the month! I was in heaven as it was the 30th! Duh!! AND it was my birthday month so all my other items were 20% off. I was liking that store very much.

Anyhow, you are likely wanting to know about the bloggers that got lucky while I was in Vegas. Well it's Sharon and Ikkinlala, Please send me your addresses and I will pop your packs in the mail.
