Spent Some Time in Utah

I spent 4 days in Utah near the end of June.
It was a Riley Blake / Lori Holt retreat for shop owners at the Quilter's Lodge in Draper.

I am always looking for ways to bring unique and cute fabric to my etsy shop.
This was a perfect opportunity to learn and expand my business.

Part of the retreat we learned applique for the new Quilt Along
on Lori blog for her Bee Happy quilt.
Of Course, I fell in love with the quilt months ago when the fabric was released for shop owners.
I have bundles, precuts and yardage in my etsy shop - it's even 25% off until Wednesday July 19 at midnight CST! Everything in my shop is on sale :)

Riley Blake provided us little kits for our blocks so that we could get right to making
- that was awesome.
Lori will be sharing her way of organizing to make this quilt and I'm telling you....
you will want to try her method!

Here are a few close ups of the blocks that I really really love.
Think of the possibilities?
If you don't want to make the whole quilt.
Frame one, mini quilt, potholder and on and on...

I'm smitten.

The Super Star pillow which Lori showed us that the retreat, uses her Bee Happy simple shapes too.
Again, a wonderful way for Lori to show you how the templates can be used for other projects, not just the Bee Happy Quilt.

And again... I really wanted this pillow for the 4th of July so I started it at the retreat.

You can see my mess - I mean my sewing station :)
Unfortunately, my Super star pillow is just a quilt top...
but I'm pretty sure I will have it finished for the next 4th of July.
It was a totally cool retreat where I made some new friends, hung with old friends and reconnected with one too.
Way more than I could've asked for.

Wild Goose Chase Quilt

The fat quarter shop has another Classic Vintage pattern release this month.
It's called Wild Goose Chase.

I knew I wanted to try at least one block because
I have never made this particular pattern before.

The pattern suggests using the Triangles on a Roll for the flying geese.
Which are sale at the Fat Quarter Shop this week with the code Triangle15

As you know, I have just recently tried the Flying Geese ruler which was a great success and now this technique.
Hmm both work so well that it's hard to say which is better.
Both are accurate, each have positives and negatives.

The Fat Quarter Shop has a video of how to make the block:

I mixed a Robert Kaufman cat fabric and Yuwa 30's collection candy flower.
The block is about 17" finished.
I want to make an entire quilt with this block so it will go on my to - do list :)

Bella Skill Builder Block 6 - Courthouse steps

Bella Skill Builder Block 6
Courthouse Steps

Using the creative grids 6" log cabin trim tool made assembling these blocks easy.

Not to mention very accurate.

I continued with my planned color choices with these blocks
and I have to say it's turning out better and better each month.

Here are Blocks 1-6 so far.

There are some spaces for the next 3 installments....
It's a little wild looking even for me :)
See you next month.
