It's a boy...gifts

*disclaimer
I may or may not have gone over board. AND I may make tons more in the next 2 months...

Here is a short stack of diaper/burp clothes.

I used an iron design for this onesie...

There was some effort in coordinating bibs, onsies and burp cloths.
I just love these bibs.
Can you see my error?
I made 2 one direction and one the opposite.
Do you think it will confuse my sister when she tries to put one on? LOL
I love this helicopter print, it's a Kokka fabric I bought about 2 years ago on sale 'just in case'.
And this lil onesie is custom....
I used a hoop and wrote out the saying, and stitched it with pearl cotton.

Now, I have heard there are some bloggers out there and readers too...that just can't believe all the "perfect" projects being posted on blogs.
Where are the mistakes you say.
Well I can certainly tell you...that I make my fair share.

The above picture is my case in point.
I put a hole in it.
I freakin' hole!!!
I about cried.
I was machine appliqueing on knit with a quilting needle...dah. stupid.
so I had to fix it or chuck it.

I put a hat on it!

Just wanted to clue you in on a new contest that started. It's called the Love Nest Quilt Contest. What a great idea to have a quilt show for modern bed sized quilts!
It's hosted by my friend AnneMarie of Gen X Quilters. She's a fellow CMQG blogger. Check out her blog and the contest. I am going to be one of the judges! how exciting and tough that will be.
Oh and there WILL be prizes too.

Looks like there are already entries. Wish I could enter LOL.

Who's the lucky blogger?

Staci! that's who :)
"I love fat quarters best, because I can make layer cake or charm square patterns with them, and still have a nice bit of fabric left for something else! Wow! I wish you could tell us about your project in the book!"
Congratulations!! I will be sending your fat eighth bundle and book sometime in May.

I decided to check out Staci's blog myself.
If you'd like to see other projects that Staci has been sewing check out her blog and flickr.
This is her Layer Cake Quilt Along block that I LOVE..
yo-yo's ✓
lakehouse fabrics ✓
I just love it.

LOTS of eye candy on her flickr site.
Stay tuned for the announcement of the Grand Prize winner of the 'dinner'.  We are all anxious to know who it is, and you know too!

Sew in

I am a bit late talking about my fun at the last Saturday Sew In at Quilt Trends. I know it was posted to the CMQG site...but I thought I would give my twist on the day.
I was super psyched to go the Columbus since I rarely get the opportunity. I made sure I left early enough to stop at Trader Joes, Whole Foods AND Quilt Beginnings. It was a succesful trip. I didn't buy anything at Quilt Beginning though. I know they have beautiful fabric but I was looking for certain lines. Like Riley Blake's new Farm fabric and stuff.
Anyhow, there were 7 of us in the first group sewing.
Beth was working on some Valentine's for a swap.

I was stripping LOL with some Modern workshop for a yet to be determined project.
In fact, I haven't sewn anymore strips since that Saturday!
Amanda was working with Sugar Pop and I just love her lil Blythe doll. We have 4 of the Little Petshop babysitter sized Blythes. I SOOOO want a 'big' 12" doll. I am mean I have wanted one for atleast 3 or 4 years. Someday. I will get one, I will.
Anyhow,
In addition to the sewing there was a WHOLE lot of  M & M eating.

It was a fantastic day and totally worth the 2 hours of driving. I can not possibly wait until we get together again.

P.S. The comments are now closed for the Moda Progressive Dinner Giveaway.
We are in the process of choosing a Grand Prize winner which will be announced in February.
I will pick MY blog's winner tomorrow the 28th.
Thanks for all the comments, I really DO like to know what pre-cuts you like because I am nosey like that and I have about 900 comments to read on my way to visit my mom and sisters this weekend!
Be back tomorrow ;)

Jitterbug

this is my mother in laws latest quilt.
I love the way she scrap quilts. It's WAY more interesting than some of mine LOL.
This is Jitterbug from Layer Cake, Jelly Roll and Charm Quilts by Pam and Nicky Lintott.
I just picked it up from the quilter for her last weekend. Now I have to pack and ship it to her!

Progressive Dinner Fresh Fabric Treats & Giveaway !!

Words can not describe how excited I am to be part of the Moda Bake Shop book Fresh Fabric Treats.

There are 15 authors participating in the Progressive Dinner to introduce you to this new book.
I don't know about you, but I had to look up the definition of progressive dinner.
I didn't even know dinners like this existed.
I live in a small town and we have potlucks LOL.
After this virtual progressive dinner...I am itching to try a real one!
Before I get off on too much of a tangent, let me introduce myself to new readers of my blog.
I'm Vickie.
I have been a sewer/crafter since I was 8 years old. I started with basic Barbie doll clothing and journeyed through cross stitch, crochet, miniatures, scrap booking, card making, cake decorating, knitting and quilting. I settled comfortably into quilting about 12 years ago while I was training to be a dentist. I have been a dentist for 10 years, married 11 years and have 2 lovely daughters. My time is little and precious as you can understand. I have always been searching for ways to streamline my quilting time. And that is where my love for Moda pre-cuts grew. I realized that sewing with pre-cut charm packs, jelly rolls etc. was a much quicker way to get right to a project. I enjoy all aspects of quilting, but make a part of it faster, easier and more enjoyable....I am there!
In addition to helping me sew more efficiently, I have found pre-cuts to really work well for my mother-in-law. Over the last 10 years she has had an increasingly more difficult time cutting fabric. She has had carpel tunnel surgery and the less cutting the better.
 Pre-cuts are awesome for this!
They truly are.
With the right pattern she can just sit and sew.
I don't mean for this to sound like an infomercial.

I just really love/believe in jelly rolls and layer cakes.
Can you tell by the picture above?
Where else can you find such wonderful "sweets" without a chance of a cavity??
Oh, Come on, I HAD to put that in there.

{I promise that is the last dentist pun for this entire post}
As I was saying,
I blog my creations and share tutorials to help all moms {and dads ;) } enjoy their quilting time more, the same way I do.
I have been very very fortunate to be a part of Moda and Moda Bakeshop for the last 2 years.
You may recognize some of my recent Moda Bakeshop Projects:

I hope to continue to create more fun projects for the bakeshop throughout 2011 as well.

So back to why you are here.
For fun and giveaways of course!
Here's a sneaky peak at what's inside the new C&T Publishing book.
You can pre-order them now and they are even on Amazon.

I can't tell you much about what I contributed.
I can tell you that it isn't in the picture below.
LOL :)

A few creative peeps ended up on the back cover
...at least I think that is the back cover? I haven't seen the entire book yet.

If you would like to win a copy of the book and my favorite Moda pre-cut, currently a fat eighth bundle.

Leave a comment stating what is YOUR favorite pre-cut and WHY...cause curious minds {mine} want to know :)

The book and pre-cut (fabric line yet to be determined) will be shipped sometime in May when the book is available.

I will randomly select the winner on January 28th.
If you do not respond in 72 hours or I do not have a valid email address, I will chose an alternate.

My winner has been announced.
Thank you.

scraps?

I forgot to mention that I was working out an idea for these scraps yesterday.
yes scraps.
these are the leftovers from cutting my applecore shapes with the GO! cutter from a few months back.
These are the 'inner' fabric from the core 'curve'.
I just couldn't throw them away!
I am thinking of raw edge appliqueing them.
I'll show more as this project progresses.

Sew Day.

Today I finished this quilt top made in Darla.
My husband suggested the blue gingham for the 2 borders.
I was considering a different blue print.
After I sewed them on...I loved it so much, I could have rolled around in it. LOL
That will have to wait until it's quilted ;)
In case you were wondering, I gained my inspiration from Anka's Treasures Sizzlin' Sixties pattern.
Oh, and I also finished the quilt top Steamy windows by G.E. Designs using Authentic by Moda.

I hope to deliver them to my machine quilter tomorrow.

I haven't been counting my stash very religiously yet this year. I am not sure I want to account for what I buy or use. Then when I use a bunch...I want to tell about it LOL.
I especially feel good about these 2 quilt tops because the backings alone used 10 yards out of my stash.
These were in fact, fabrics that I had purchased 4-5 years ago.  They didn't seem to have a purpose until today. Once they are quilted I will get pictures of the backings.
I have a lot going on tomorrow...hoping to squeeze in some sewing for my sister's baby.
I'll show you if I make any progress.
Oh and btw...
the Progressive Dinner is well on it's way.
Be sure to check out all the Fresh Fabric Treats contributors.

working ahead...or sidetracked

Easter isn't until near the end of April.
But I just couldn't help myself.
I HAD to work ahead on this lil bunny pillow or is it side tracked?
At any rate, I can't wait until it's finished.
I loved digging through my charms and I mixed 3 of Anne Sutton's fabric lines.
Lily and Will and 2 of her lines from Henry Glass. They are gorgeous.

Bed of Roses Project

Getting back to our regularly scheduled blogging.

If you have a GO! or thinking of getting one...this book may be a great help to you.
Mix & Match Quilts with the Accuquilt GO! can be found HERE.
The cool thing is that you can download it right away...no waiting to get started on that 'certain' project.
I was asked to review one of the quilts in the book.
My project for this book is the Bed of Roses quilt.
I decided that I wanted to try the 2 main blocks and see if the GO! would really cut an accurate block for me.
I have never tried blocks like these before.
So I grabbed a jelly roll of Modern Workshop by Oliver & S for Moda...and started cutting.
Wait no I didn't.
I realized that the block in the book is a 9" block made with dies I didn't own.
Bummer.
So I improvised.
I used my 2" finished triangles and squares....

 I auditioned several 'pink' prints...

It's amazing how these fabrics totally change the feel of the blocks/quilt.

I was trying to find the right print.
I settled on the light pink stripe.

Here's what I sewed up.
I did finish the 4 blocks. I did. I plan on making it some sort of pillow? not sure.
For some reason I didn't take a pic of the finished block.
Eventually I will.

In the meantime, If you'd like to see more of this book, visit the next tour guides:
and
or our previous guides:

Each of these bloggers can show you one of the cool quilts from this book.

Valentine candy heart wool mat
I started this before Valentine's last year. I pulled it out and finished it a couple of days ago. It's found a nice home in my living room. It felt good to finish it...seems I haven't finished much lately.

I'll be back tomorrow with the list of winners.

Be Mine Blog Tour Day 7

For our finale`
Natalia of Piece n Quilt created a super cute Valentine Hugs Placemat for you.

Be sure to leave a comment on each blog's project post to be given a chance for the grand prize of $100 gift Certificate from the Fat Quarter Shop!

Here is the list one last time:

Today I am off to a sew in.
A sew in!! wahooo.
I prepped 4 projects last night...
well I mean they are things I have been working on and would LOVE to finish piecing.
Here's my list:
 Applecore in 1930's
Frosty window quilt in Authentic
Lil quilt in Sugar Pop
Heart pillow by Jen W to quilt the top
and a design I'm working on...it will end up a quilt no doubt...
I do have doubt it will end up a pattern.
LOL it's not going as well as I'd hoped.
It's just that I only have a jelly roll and then when I sewed one block *20" square...I realized I wished I'd pieced it differently..so only way to fix it is to get another jelly roll.
As you may have guessed...it hasn't been released yet.
So not sure what I am going to do....today or time will tell.

Be Mine Blog Tour Day 6

And just when we thought it couldn't get better. Stephanie shows up with Valentine Garland!

AND she used Giddy. I wonder how many of the Be Mine projects I could make with my layer cake?
Well I won't be able to know, because I sort of made another project with it that I am not at liberty to show at this time.
Shoot. or woohooo!
Shoot I am nearly out of Giddy.
woohoo that my project is a secret at the moment (usually means good things coming to a designer).

We have nearly every decorating 'area' covered in the Be Mine blog tour
....except the bed or the couch..hmm...
Okay so be sure to stop back tomorrow for Natalia's project.
I haven't see it...but it's Natalia...it HAS to be good right?
:)

Oh and let's not forget our sponsor the Fat Quarter Shop. They have offered up a $50 gift certificate from each of the 7 blogs. Plus the grand prize of $100 gift certificate and must comment on ALL 7 blogs to be entered for that.

So folks today is one of my days off.
I am crossing my fingers that I will get to sew some.
I have literally a 100 things to work on...
okay mostly stuff for my sister's baby shower in 2 weeks.
I hope to finish the applique onesies, start on a wipes bag, make burp clothes, pacifier holder and on and on and on....wish me luck.
