Progressive Dinner Fresh Fabric Treats & Giveaway !!

Words can not describe how excited I am to be part of the Moda Bake Shop book Fresh Fabric Treats.

There are 15 authors participating in the Progressive Dinner to introduce you to this new book.
I don't know about you, but I had to look up the definition of progressive dinner.
I didn't even know dinners like this existed.
I live in a small town and we have potlucks LOL.
After this virtual progressive dinner...I am itching to try a real one!
Before I get off on too much of a tangent, let me introduce myself to new readers of my blog.
I'm Vickie.
I have been a sewer/crafter since I was 8 years old. I started with basic Barbie doll clothing and journeyed through cross stitch, crochet, miniatures, scrap booking, card making, cake decorating, knitting and quilting. I settled comfortably into quilting about 12 years ago while I was training to be a dentist. I have been a dentist for 10 years, married 11 years and have 2 lovely daughters. My time is little and precious as you can understand. I have always been searching for ways to streamline my quilting time. And that is where my love for Moda pre-cuts grew. I realized that sewing with pre-cut charm packs, jelly rolls etc. was a much quicker way to get right to a project. I enjoy all aspects of quilting, but make a part of it faster, easier and more enjoyable....I am there!
In addition to helping me sew more efficiently, I have found pre-cuts to really work well for my mother-in-law. Over the last 10 years she has had an increasingly more difficult time cutting fabric. She has had carpel tunnel surgery and the less cutting the better.
 Pre-cuts are awesome for this!
They truly are.
With the right pattern she can just sit and sew.
I don't mean for this to sound like an infomercial.

I just really love/believe in jelly rolls and layer cakes.
Can you tell by the picture above?
Where else can you find such wonderful "sweets" without a chance of a cavity??
Oh, Come on, I HAD to put that in there.

{I promise that is the last dentist pun for this entire post}
As I was saying,
I blog my creations and share tutorials to help all moms {and dads ;) } enjoy their quilting time more, the same way I do.
I have been very very fortunate to be a part of Moda and Moda Bakeshop for the last 2 years.
You may recognize some of my recent Moda Bakeshop Projects:

I hope to continue to create more fun projects for the bakeshop throughout 2011 as well.

So back to why you are here.
For fun and giveaways of course!
Here's a sneaky peak at what's inside the new C&T Publishing book.
You can pre-order them now and they are even on Amazon.

I can't tell you much about what I contributed.
I can tell you that it isn't in the picture below.
LOL :)

A few creative peeps ended up on the back cover
...at least I think that is the back cover? I haven't seen the entire book yet.

If you would like to win a copy of the book and my favorite Moda pre-cut, currently a fat eighth bundle.

Leave a comment stating what is YOUR favorite pre-cut and WHY...cause curious minds {mine} want to know :)

The book and pre-cut (fabric line yet to be determined) will be shipped sometime in May when the book is available.

*Be sure to leave a way for me to contact you*

I will randomly select the winner on January 28th.
If you do not respond in 72 hours or I do not have a valid email address, I will chose an alternate.

The Grand Dessert (prize) is a fat quarter bundle, fat eighth bundle, jelly roll, layer cake, and a charm pack (a $200 value!) from Moda.

I like jelly rolls because they are pre cut! And,they offer a good assortment of the line! Great tour, and congratulations for being a part of it!

Sue-z said...

I really like the fat quarter bundle because of the way you can see all the colors - nothing to do with the ease of cutting or anything like that.

I like all the pre-cuts! Makes for less cutting! Anything to make a quilt less work !

trish said...

I don't know which is my favorite pre-cut because I've never used them! I'm working on my first quilt, and I just went and bought fabric off the bolt. It would be so fun to win one of the pre-cuts and see what it's all about!

Jelly rolls and fat quarters are great to work with.
Such a time saver.

I absolutely LOVE Jelly rolls! I am making a quilt with them now and just love, love, love them!

Fat quarters would be my favorite since there's more to go around to many projects. Thanks for the giveaway!

I think that my favorite would be fat quarters. I can make a bigger quilt and still have a few scraps left over to make something else. Thanks for the giveaway.

I can't really narrow down my favorite precut. I love them ALL. For different reasons. Can't wait to get the book!

Ashley said...

Personally, I love the dental jokes. My sister is a dentist and my husband is currently in his third year of dental school...we love dentists at our house!

Like I said, we are in school and our budget is tight so my favorite precut is a charm pack. They are cheap, adorable and I love that you get a little bit of the whole line. If I really love a line, then I'll spring for a layer cake. Thanks for the chance to win!

Well I really like fat quarter bundles the best, but being a little pricey sometimes, I realy find layer cakes a great alternative!

I love jelly rolls, because I can not for the life of me cut 2.5 inch strips straight. I always mess up. Thank you, Moda Fabrics and Stash books for the giveaway.

Hi Vickie! Congrats on getting your lovely work into a book. I have mostly used charm packs which are so great to do different things with, but what I really want to play with is layer cakes. Thanks for the chance to win the book!

AKnativewoman said...

I would have to say layer cakes is my favorite - the size makes it economical, easy to cut different sizes . . . then it would be followed by charms as those are really quick to make something! Thanks for such a fun way to build my stash!!

MaeveM said...

I broken my left arm a year ago into 5 pieces at the elbow - so cutting is very difficult - so all the pre cuts are my favorite now!

They don't seem to be as popular, but I absolutely love charm packs! They are so much fun! I feel like their smaller size makes them easier to work with in many different patterns. Fat quarter bundles are my 2nd favorite.

I'm a new quilter, and at the moment jelly rolls are my favorite things ever! They let me have fabric all nice and pre-cut and seem less intimidating than some of the other ones.

My favorite is a fat quarter bundle. It's the most bang for the buck and works for bigger projects.

Im not sure I have a favorite precut. I really love all of them for different reason. I think I probably use FQs the most, followed by layer cakes and charm packs.
Congrats on the book.

Congrats on being in the Moda book! I love FQ stacks because there is more fabric to love, and it's more versatile when I don't yet know what I will make with the fabric. I also like the layer cakes.

I seem to collect charm packs... I can get my "fix" with less of an investment! I really do like jelly rolls, layer cakes, and fat quarter bundles, but those purchases are more than just a quick impulse buy! Oh dear, I've got myself a big muddled and I can't remember if I commented here or whether there was another one on the tour asking what our favourite pre-cut is.

Just in case (please ignore if I HAVE already commented), my favourite pre-cuts are fat quarters. Mostly because I'm a bit of a quilting newbie and this gives me more quantity to build a bit of a stash with.

Beth said...

My favorite precut is the fat quarter because you can do so much with it. My second favorite is the charm packs. I guess I should branch out & try some of the other precuts. I'm sure the new book will have lots of inspiration for that.

Deb said...

My favorite pre-cuts are the layer cake and charm pack. The layer cake gives you 4-charms and can pretty much be used in any quilt. A lot of patterns can easily use a charm square, but I love all pre-cuts. Congrats on the book and the giveaway.

I love fat quarter bundles. I can make an entire quilt and I don't have to choose the palette. It is already done for me! And I usually have enough scraps to do a small project or two. I have bought many FQ bundles much to the dismay of my DH!

I have not tried any of Moda's precuts yet, but hope i win and so can try some and maybe get hooked!

Rachel said...

I only started learning how to quilt last year, so I haven't done too many projects yet (and none with any of the lovely pre-cuts sadly, as of yet either). My favorite though that I like are the charm packs because they are easy enough to just piece together for a project as is...or cut up for smaller pieces to make something a little more complicated! :D I love the jelly rolls though too...after seeing all the fun tutorials on the Moda blog. ;) Hehe! I'd love to win any of these prizes everyone is offering as I know I could find something fun to make with any of them! :)

I love the layer cakes, because you can cut them just a few times, mix & match, and make some really easy blocks. Of course, I love fat quarters & charm squares, too. Haven't gotten a fat eight, but that sounds way fun!

My favorite is the charm pack right now. Love the smaller size-less cutting for me. :)

slfranks4 said...

My favorite precut is the charm pack. I have lots of friends having babies right now (three this month alone!) And I love giving baby quilts! There is something so classic about basic square patchwork... I think of it as the little black dress of the quilting world.
Congratulations on the new book! I cannot wait to see what's in store! :D

I use to be hooked on charm packs. But it just was not enough! I now love layer cakes. They are bigger pieces of fabric and if you cut them up you have 4 charm packs! Dinner is great!

Peggy said...

I like fat quarter bundles because you usually have left over fabric, but I also like jellyrolls as there is less cuting.

quiltmom anna said...

I love fat quarters and charm squares - the fat quarters so I can drool over all the beautiful fabrics in the line and the charm squares so I can create some designs like the disappearing 9 patch and 4 patch too.
Your mother in law might enjoy having an accuquilt cutter ( the Go or the Go baby) which has all sorts of die cutters to choose from- I am told they are great for pre cutting shapes and are easy to use. I think they would be a nice for all those quilts that use templates and are titchy to cut.
Regards from Western Canada,
Anna

Good evening from Spain. First of all, congratulations on your book and thank you for inviting us to your blog. I've recently discovered Moda pre-cuts and I fell immediately in love with jelly rolls, they are so versatile and the recipes at Moda bakeshop help very much.

Vickie, It is lovely to meet you. I love pre-cuts as well, and wish that a quilt shop near me carried more of them. I have a had time deciding but I believe that the fat quarter bundle is my favorite. It is one of each of those beautiful fabrics wrapped up for me to open and cut up! I love that! Thanks for sharing so much about yourself!

The first Moda precut that I ever worked with was a jelly roll and I have to admit that I am constantly amazed by how much creativity can be wrangled out of a single jelly roll.

My favorite precuts are the fat quarter bundles becuase the possibilities are endless. The more the merrier!

My favorite pre-cut is the fat eighth bundle. It's just the right amount for most patterns.

kay said...

My favorite precut? Hmmm... It's a toss-up between LAYER CAKES (which make quick quilts as they are, or can easily be cut into charm squares and other useful cuts) and JELLY ROLLS (which I love to piece end-to-end for binding!).

Patricia Hodge said...

My favorite pre-cuts are fat quarters. I have never made a quilt with them though. I make a big, casual bag out of 4 different fat quarters that has been hugely popular with my family and friends. I really don't have much experience with precuts. I'm a fairly new quilter. I do want to make a tumbler quilt from a charm pack set.

Tiffany Sherman said...

I like layer cakes. Large enough to do strips or squares and small enough to work with easily.

Sherryknit said...

My fav's. are charm packs and layer cakes. What fun this is. I live in Ohio also. They can make sooo many things. But i just saw a really cute and simple baby quilt just using a jelly roll. I will have to try that one. Love your blog by the way. I always check in. I don't comment much but I love to see your creations.

Have a Great Day.

vww said...

I've just made my first quilt top, and used Fat Quarters, but the idea of Layer Cakes makes me almost weak at the knees - I could get the seams so much more accurate if my cutting was better...

Hi Vickie, Like you I've loved Moda Precuts since they came out on the market. My favourite is the Jelly Roll, but that can also depend on the fabric line. Some fabric lines with big prints can suit Layer Cakes better but on a whole Jelly Rolls all the way. Keep up the great work.

Also like your star baby quilt, my sister is making it out of Reily Blake's star fabric.

Choosing just one favorite is so hard, currently I'd have to say the layer cake. I'm excited to find out what your contribution to the book is.

what amazing quilters! i've only ever used yardage cuts of fabric and fat quarters for my projects... haven't quite discovered the joy of pre cuts, but you've convinced me to give them a try. don't think i really have a favourite - i love anything pretty! :D congrats on the book too!

The book looks like it is going to be awesome! How great to have so many talented artists in one book! My favorite precuts are fat quarter bundles because they ususally have one of every fabric in the line and there is plenty of fabric to make anything I want!

Right now, I'm really liking Layer Cakes. I just made a very cute quilt for my new little niece with a Lily & Will Pink Layer Cake. It was super easy! So yeah, layer cakes at the moment! LOL!

I love charms squares. I love you can create quick fun things with them and start sewing right away. Precuts of any kind are fun for this reason, you can see your creation come to life quicker.

My favorite must be charm packs. I find myself purchasing 2 or 3 of every line I like. They store very nicely in shoe boxes in my fabric cabinet.

Leila said...

I love FQ bundles because they give you the most fabric :), unfortunately they cost the most too so what I Really buy are charm packs. I love the variety and the cost.

Megan @ Megity's Handmade said...

I love the fat quarters but that's because I like to take them home and admire them not actually make anything with them. One day I will!

Brenda said...

I haven't used any precuts other than charm packs. I think they give you a wide variety of fabric to use. I would love to have a jelly roll some day. IUt would really be a timesaver.

Vicki said...

My favorite precut--I love them all but I'll go with jelly rolls for now. :)

Cindy said...

FQ's cuz I can do so much with them! Looking forward to seeing your project in the new book.

Hi Vickie!
My favorite precuts are the fat quarter bundles. I'm a more is better kind of gal and don't mind cutting. I'm still not great with piacking out fabrics that go well together for quilts. (I'm a garment sewist too.) I love the bigger bundles with so many choices all prematched.

I haven't really used any precuts other than charm packs. They give you a variety of fabric to use. I would love to use a jelly roll some day. It would save a lot of time cutting.

I love the charm pack. I like seeing all the fabric neatly stacked up.

pinsandneedles said...

I love fat quarters because there is usually scraps left from my project. Who doesn't like scraps? However I do use charm packs the most. Thanks for the chance to win!

Melinda said...

My favorite pre-cut is the layer cake. I think the price is my main factor, a whole collection of fabric for $35 is pretty unbeatable!

sublimelmf said...

I love layer cakes! Just enough fabric without the cost of the fat quarter packs

Annette said...

I love charm packs. I have made several Schnibbles patterns, and they go together fast.

I can't wait to see the new book - you are all such talented designers! Personally, I love FQ stacks-I love that you can make a quilt and still have scraps left over to incorporate into another project!

A real progressive supper is really fun. We did one this year at Christmas.
Congrats on the book. Pretty exciting. I like the fat quarter cuts the best just because I have not really made much with the other cuts yet.

Sharon said...

My current favorite is the charm pack, although I have used a layer cake. Haven't tried a jelly roll yet but I have one in my stash. Thanks for this great 'dinner' and giveaway.

I love working with Jelly Rolls. I have a jacket pattern that I want to try out and the precut strips are wonderful. Thanks so much for the chance to win a new book!!

its so hard to pick just one favorite precut charm

layer cakes are nice for a top all you need is just the one package and you get all fabrics from the line in wonderful 10 inch squares

charm packs are nice so easy to make a lovely charm quilt {currently working on a king size Fandango = LOVE}

jelly rolls just strip piece and you can make a lovely lap size straight form the package or cut it up and make a nice quilt easy enough

need i say more i LOVE precuts in all varieties

Having recently gotten a "real job" that requires me out of the house 50 hours a week, I can appreciate the pre-cuts a lot more! I would have to say that the Fat Quarter Bundles are still my favorite though! I love seeing that gorgeous stack of fabric just waiting to be a quilt! Congrats on the book!
