Celebrate National Quilting Month with a Giveaway

There are so many good things to celebrate during March this year.
For our family, there are 2 big girl birthdays - 9 and 15!
St. Patrick's Days, National Quilting Day and Easter!
It's an action packed month for sure.
The weather in Minnesota has been unseasonably warm, however, cold and snow are headed our way once again.
I don't know about you but I need a little spring.
If fabric is the only way I can get it then I'll take it :)

Tackling my scraps and scrap bins....

Yep tackling my scraps....
It's going to be a long haul I believe.
I have loads of scraps after quilting for more than 20 years.
I decided that I would give my best effort to clear out what I don't think I will use in the next couple of years -okay 10 years lol ;)
I started with my 1.5" strip bin. My cat Porkchop thought the container was just for him...

These pictures are taken on different days even!
He would go there immediately after I opened the box.
 Silly kitty!

Once I finished my strip bin, I went on to my boxes that were sorted by color.
When I dumped out the blues...it stayed in a cube because it was packed so tight!

I cut out half of it.
I have big scrap bags listed by color on instagram.
If they don't sell on the #thegreatfabricdestash then I will put them on etsy.
I am just charging a couple dollars over the shipping costs.
I just want them to go to a good home.

Once I finished my boxes by color, I started on my zip lock bags that have accumulated.
I would put low volume strips or just 1930's in a bag to 'sort' later.
Well later has come and it's time to tackle them.

Sorry for the blurry picture. I just wanted to show yet another shoe box size of strips.

And of course, the cat in the containers meant for strip sorting.

I've now begun to sort my strip size and color. This has taken me a couple of weeks.
I won't lie, it gets a bit boring at times when I decide to iron and trim the wonky strips to 'size'.
But I think it will be worth it in the end.
I'd like to be able to just pick out a bunch of precut 2.5" squares and just sew.
Or use them for a leaders and enders project.
This is just the beginning.

Cutting, sewing and a big sale!

Hello hello... It's been a few weeks since my last post. Pretty typical for me really. I get real motivated because I have to blog ;) and the life sort of takes over.

I have been starting a few quilt projects. I haven't really finished any.
This project is suppose to be a pillow. I chose the new Moda Regent Street Lawns with some Zen Chic Modern paper background text print.
It's about half done.

I tend to get distracted easily and decided I should cut some 5" square of low volume prints for my etsy shop. There are still a few listed there if you want to add to your stash from mine.

I have spoke quite a few times about my mother-in-law and quilting.
She loves to make stuff. Quilting, embroidery or amazing Indian food....
however, as time goes on she is having more and more days when her right wrist swells. It swells to the point that she can't cut with a rotary cutter or stir a pot of soup :(

The last time she was visiting she asked if I make a project to cut one for her so that she could just sit and sew. Well I decided to take that a step further and cut her some kits.
All the pieces cut, labeled and ready to sew.
I particularly like patterns with precuts (less cutting for me) and that are small and manageable for her to machine quilt if she wants such as table toppers.
Pieced Tree patterns makes quite a few very simple projects on a small card.
I have used their patterns long before I designed my own.

My mother-in-law has made most of my patterns so I needed to branch out.
I also cut up a snowman pattern by Pieces of my Heart. I know it's after Christmas but I'm hoping she'll make it for me for next Christmas ;) LOL

While all that fun was happening the new Yuwa Sunday 9 am prints arrived and a bundle of Atsuko Matsuyama 30's collection Strawberry Squared.

They are all listed on my etsy site and by the way there is 40% off ALL regular prices and 60% off clearance through 2/14/16 midnight! Pre-orders of the new Moda Sample spree fabrics are included in the sale. They are arriving around 2/12/16 and shipping by 2/15/16.  Volume II by Sweetwater, Just a Speck, Lollies and Beyond the scenes by Jen Kingwell, Little Miss Sunshine by Lella Boutique, and Flow by Zen Chic.

Here are some of the prints I cut for 5" and 2.5" mini charm packs. If you haven't used Yuwa fabric before you can pick up a charm pack to get a feel for colors and texture of the fabric.
until next time...happy sewing...
