My First Quilt

Camille and Carrie have brilliantly challenged each to show our first quilt and our latest quit.
Here is my first quilt. I finished it in 1997. I used the pattern from Little Quilts All Through the House book. I made 3 or 4 of those quilts...I sold them or gave them away but I did keep my first.

This is my recently finished quilt. Candy Buttons for Moda Bakeshop. I just LOVE this quilt. I can't get enough of it..the colors and the texture....but I love all my quilts. I've learned many many things in the last 12 years. Here's the top 3.

1. quality fabrics....sorry wally world you don't cut it.

2.use fabrics you love...that's right CUT your favorites..ALL of it.

3. a 1/4 inch seam allowance is fudgable...teehee

Your first quilt is so nice. Mine is not near as good but Camille thinks I should quilt it up and finish it, I suppose I should it's only been 20 years since I made it. I love your candy dots quilt. I agree with your 3 things about quilting. Only problem is me liking fabric too much as my sewing room is too full, I really need to make more quilts and use up some of my great fabric. Moda is my favorite.

I love both...and I made two of the same pattern as your first...one in Christmas prints which I kept..and a second scrappy homespun type that I gave to my Aunt and Uncle for Christmas one year! This has been so much fun! Hope all is going well with the house.

They are both quite stunning.
Love the candy dots very very much!

It’s wonderful to see what changes quilters live through!

Love the candy dots!! Your right the colors are awesome! Oh it's sooo hard for me to cut into fabric that I like, it's seriously an illness I think! Lol

We all learn by experience, but our first quilt is always special.

I saw your quilt on Moda Bakeshop. It is adorable. My first looks nothing as complicated as yours. Mine was a middle rectangle with three borders I believe. Either that or a bunch of small squares randomly sewn together. But I love my latest one. It is my favorite ever. Not even sure if the pattern has a name or not, I accidentally came across it one day while working with strip sets.

Once again, I can tell the quilting super stars by their first quilt! Yours is beautiful and I am still going to make your Moda Bake Shop quilt when I get those same fabrics.

Hi Vickie ~ I love fudge. When it comes to quilting, it's my favorite treat. :)

I love the quilts ~ and the Moda Bake Shop quilt is gorgeous! I knew I should have bought more of that Swell fabric. Grrrr.

Thank you for sharing your quilts and your stories ~ and your lessons! Just say NO to WallyWorld fabric! :)

Oooh - Love the log cabin -- it looks like it belongs in a home in New England. I especially love the hand stitching. If you ever get tired of it -- I'll take it. giggle

Love your latest MBS -- I'm a nut for circles -- especially the circle quilting you did.
