Applique Butterflies...

I have been working on WISP's and one is this 1930's butterfly applique quilt. I don't have a pattern for setting the blocks. I have asked friends for advise and now I am asking all of you that read my blog. What might you do with them?
Would you set them on point? or straight as shown? what color would you border with? etc. Any advice would be great!

Wow 1930s - you sure have been working on this one for a while. haha. I agree with Sherri; I think these beautiful blocks would look good on point with some coordinating borders. Very pretty!

Can I suggest you google 1930's butterfly quilt. There are a few of them there that could help you make up your mind.I'm very fond of 1930's quilts and these are looking very nice indeed.

Many of the 30's quilts seem to have sashing and cornerstones. Do you want to stay true to the 30's or are you open to maybe something else?

Personally for 30's I like sashing with cornerstones. Preferably from solid fabrics. I think these would be very sweet set on point. I hope this helps, Vickie.

Wow so pretty! Is the fabric a current line? I am looking for 30s fabric to make my mom a quilt. The quilt is stunning.

Hi Vickie,
I'm with Sherri, I think they would show off lovely with an on-point setting. And with a sashing around each block...
The other idea that sprang to my mind was a straight setting with a striped sashing and nine patch cornerstones...
I'm curious which decision you'll make. I know this quilt is going to be gorgeous, I love the 1930's butterflies!
Hugs, Julia

I love the blocks! I agree with most of the other ones - on point! I think I have a couple of these butterfly blocks at home that my grandmother made. This makes me want to make more and put them together. Maybe some day when I have more time. Hee Hee!!

Such pretty blocks Vickie! I think they'd be pretty just sashed -- maybe with a 1930's-ish color (blue, green, pink, yellow -- ha! how's that for indecisive) -- just simple and square, just like they would have done it back then!
