Gifts from Japan...

Besides a hefty hospital bill...this is all my husband brought back from Japan, who can blame him? They are gifts from some old college friends living back in Japan.
Does anyone know what these blue fabrics are for? are they dishtowels?

I"m thinking the blue fabrics may be for use in the Japanese form of stitchery that is called Sashiko (might have the spelling wrong). It is actually considered a Japanese form of quilting. If you do a search for it online, you can get more information, but I really think that is how those blue fabrics are intended to be used. (I've seen them at Sashiko booths at various quilt shows.)

My hubby, who lived in Japan for 5 years, says towels of this sort are a frequent "leave behind" or courtesy gift, much like we would leave behind a pen with advertising on it, or a golf towel with our company logo.

Sorry for the late reply. I've been on vacation for 3 weeks and trying to catch up on my blog reading. I think you should ask Tanya at her blog 'Taniwa'. She lives in Japan and is a quilter and blogger.
